School governors are people who want to make a positive contribution to children's education. Governors are one of the largest volunteer forces in the country and have an important part to play in raising school standards. The role of the governing body is absolutely key to the effectiveness of a school.
All governors, regardless of category, will be required to consent to the carrying out of any appropriate checks, including Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS - previously Criminal Records Bureau - CRB) checks, in respect of eligibility/suitability to be appointed as a school governor. All governors will also need to be willing to commit to their role as governor. This will involve attending whole governing body meetings and taking on at least one role or responsibility, attending training, participating in recruitment and visiting the school in accordance with the School Visits Policy.
The governing body meets once a month for 10 meetings per year (no meeting in April or August) on a Wednesday at 6pm
